Target Audience: Users, Developers
Introduction¶
Beyond standard subscription offers, Tulo Paywall can integrate with additional Payway features to provide more flexible purchase options for your customers.
Payway Articles¶
Payway Articles allows you to sell access to individual articles rather than full subscriptions. Customers can purchase infinite access to specific content without committing to a recurring subscription.
Key features:
- Sell individual article access instead of subscription packages
- Customers gain permanent access to purchased articles
- Can be integrated directly into Tulo Paywall templates
- Supports Adyen and Klarna Payments
For information on configuring Article purchases in Payway, see Payway Articles configuration.
Implementing Payway Articles in Tulo Paywall¶
Once you have configured an Article payment period, and you have your own implementation setup to be able to handle the access control of Payway Articles, you can begin selling!
Simply navigate to the template of the Tulo Paywall where you would like to offer article purchases, and depending on your checkout type, choose one of the following HTML snippets, that should be pasted at the very bottom of the "Advanced settings" section:
Redirect to shop¶
<div id="tulo-article">
<h3>Interested in this article only?</h3>
<p>
Click the button below to unlock access to this article.
<a href="{{LOGIN_URL}}">Login</a> if you have already unlocked this article previously.
</p>
<a href="{{ARTICLE_PURCHASE_URL}}">
<button id="paywall__article-purchase-button" type="button">Unlock article</button>
</a>
</div>
Embedded shop¶
<div id="tulo-article">
<h3>Interested in this article only?</h3>
<p>
Click the button below to unlock access to this article.
<a href="{{LOGIN_URL}}">Login</a> if you have already unlocked this article previously.
</p>
<button id="paywall__article-purchase-button" type="button" data-action-trigger="true" data-action-url="{{ARTICLE_PURCHASE_URL}}">Unlock article</button>
</div>
Now, the Tulo Paywall will almost take care of the rest for you. However, in the customVariables attribute available when initialising the Tulo Paywall, the following parameters must be set in order for the link to become correct:
| Key | Description |
|---|---|
| TULO_ARTICLE_ID | ID of the Article, later used to identify whether the customer has access or not |
| TULO_ARTICLE_URL | Absolute URI to the specific article that the customer will buy |
| TULO_ARTICLE_SUBJECT | Subject/title of the specific article that the customer will buy |
Express Checkout¶
Express Checkout enables faster subscription purchases using digital wallet payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay. By leveraging stored wallet data, customers can complete purchases with fewer steps.
Key features:
- One-click subscription purchases using digital wallets
- Automatically uses payment and personal information from wallets
- Supports both Apple Pay and Google Pay
- Easy integration via Tulo Paywall templates
For information on configuring Express Checkout in Payway, see Express Checkout configuration.
Implementing Express Checkout in Tulo Paywall¶
To implement Express Checkout in your Tulo Paywall, you need to complete two steps:
Step 1: Configure the Offer¶
Navigate to the offer in Tulo Paywall where you would like to offer Express Checkout, and select one or more of the applicable Express Checkout payment periods at the bottom.
The selected payment periods will then be automatically used when you render your Tulo Paywall.
Note: Only one payment period per payment option is allowed, so while you can offer both Apple Pay and Google Pay in your Tulo Paywall Offer, you cannot have multiple Apple Pay periods under the same offer.
Step 2: Add the Script to Your Template¶
Navigate to the template in Tulo Paywall where you would like to offer Express Checkout, and add the following variable in the "Advanced settings" section where you want the Express Checkout buttons to appear:
{{EXPRESS_CHECKOUT_SCRIPT}}
This single variable will automatically render the appropriate Express Checkout buttons (Apple Pay and/or Google Pay) based on the payment periods configured in your offer and the customer's browser capabilities.
